Winter Steelhead Count Officially Starts December 1

A few early winter steelhead are starting to move into the North Umpqua River. The official date by ODFW to switch counts from summer steelhead to winter steelhead is December 1st so these fish are included in the current summer steelhead count total. The winter steelhead run return does not peak till February and continues through April. Summer steelhead have been holding upstream for the past few months and will spawn during February and March.
