River Forks Kids Day Hooks the Next Generation of Anglers

Last week, students from across Douglas County joined River Forks Kids Day on the Umpqua River, rotating through casting, fly-fishing, knot-tying, fish-identification, and water-safety stations run by professionals and volunteers. Funded through the Umpqua Fishery Enhancement Derby, every child left with a rod and reel, tackle box, life jacket, and backpack so they can keep exploring Oregon’s rivers. The hands-on practice gave the kids new fishing experience, learned from veterans and local anglers, and ensured that a cherished fishing heritage will carry into the next generation. Special thanks to Fly-Fishing Veterans, Oregon State Police, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Umpqua Fishermen’s Association, Douglas Timber Operators, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, and every dedicated volunteer who made the day possible.
